375th RRC Det 2
by Stephen J. Zawacki
Spent most of the time with the 374th RRC, splitting time between
Det 2 (3rd Bde/4ID) and Camp Enari.
Have to admit that the Det 2/374th time was probably the strangest, running up and down the I/II Corps coastline and then into the highlands - a bunch of olive-drab gypsies camped behind concertina wire (Tet '68 at LZ Baldy, south of Hoi An). It was better than at Enari where there seemed to be more concern with appearances than substance.
Det 2, 374th RRC was assigned to the old 3rd Brigade, 25th Inf Div when
the Brigade moved north to II Corps (Duc Pho). Then IFFORCEV got the bright
idea in late '67 to swap brigade designations for 3rd/25thID and 3rd/4thID,
since 3rd/4ID moved so far south that they fell into 25thID's AO. Det 2,
374th remained as it was, and followed the newly designated 3rd Bde/ 4th Inf
Div (which at this time was attached to the newly assigned HQ Americal
Division at Chu Lai through the Brigade's journeys from Duc Pho (in Quang
Ngai province), to LZ Baldy (between Hoi An & Chu Lai), and to LZ English
(north of Phu Cat). In '68 3rd/4ID left LZ English and was returned to 4th
Inf Div and set up home at Kontum. HQ 4th Inf Div was located at Camp
Enari, a few clicks outside of Pleiku and the 330th RRC.
Hope the "gulliver's travels" story explains it all.
