From Westover, Azores, Tripoli, Cyprus, to Saudi Arabia, (Dharan),
C47 to Asmara. Goooood duty, wot?...I made it to the Motor Pool, drove
a makeshift bus to town with all the dependents aboard. I think a Sgt. Law
was the man at the Motor Pool? Don't recall. I remember "Tobin", think
he made Staff around 49 or 50?
I sure remember the Shifta, and the snipers. I remember the civil war in town!
We were restricted and put on alert at Radio Marina. I was on the main gate ,the
ammo carrier for the 30 cal. machine gun. Don't remember the gunners name.
Three MP's there I remember. Art Thexton, he was the Provost Sgt. Nick Worth
and a fellow by the name of Callelo.
I played the bass fiddle at the EM club the Oasis and the piano at the O club.
Eddie Rhinart on Trumpet, Mark Thompson on Drums, and Reggie Jenner on
Piano. (He was english CID). Reggie didn't play at the O club. I've been trying
to make contact with some of the fellows in the outfit, Frank (Buck) Rosavage,
Tom Swizk , Bill Swanson , (058's). A fellow named "Brilhart or Brillheart" an MP.
Ted Brass (Unit Field Intelligence); I can't remember all the guys.
I remember the Dik-Dik, Gazelle, and Kudu, good eatin". We we're
all excellent shots!!!! We used the old Thompson Machine Guns, with the 50
round drum. Remember those? Wanted to give the Gazelle a chance, they
were so fast. (Ahem). However, we did gut, and dress out our kills, and
ate or distrubuted same.
