April -June ' 65 Ft Leonard Wood - basic(where all the hills go up)
July'65 - April '66 - Devens " A" company, if memory serves. I was in the band,so didn't have to go down to where youse guys were. Completed AIT, and then waited for my clearance (yes, finished school before clearance was given - - - can you believe it!) before going on to Asmara, the city of dreams.

Did trick work at tract " C". Don't ask which trick - my memory is about as long as my, uh ,,, uh,,, name. Also played keyboard in the " Cavaliers". Some of the guys I bunked with were Val Zibung,Paul Herron, "Skinney"Miller, and assorted other nefarious characters. I seem to recall we spent most of our time trying to twitch out the house boys. There was one guy by the name of Shuck (don't remember his first name - but wait, yes I do. It was Lenwood). Anyway, he slept with his eyes open, not wide open, but open. The house boys refused to enter our room if he was the only occupant. They thought he was dead. And could come to life as required. Guys I remember (not in any sort of order):
Chuck Madison - 058
Larry "Duckey-Poo" Hill 05H (Large fellow - lifer - was but a lowly E4 when I arrived. SSG when I left.)
Tim "Squirrel"Williams 05H (had the green souped-up VW)
Lauren (Larry) Kaiser - Spec 6 - arabic linguist - a genius of sorts
SFC "Mac" - NCOIC days (if memory serves)
Ernie Warren - 059, but a good guy none the less.
And then there were the guys of whom I was truly jealous (and you know I do not remember their names). The guys that performed the now world famous "2 over easy with a 3 strips of bacon". I have attempted to explain this "performance art" to others, but to no avail. I remember one of these fellows attempting to do a Western Omelet, but he did an injury to himself. And let us not forget "Snot dripping down the R-390's".

But all things must come to an end. I got married, lost my clearance, and had to go into the real army. That's how I ended up in Germany. As an 05C40 in a Sergeant Missile Bn. Did that from January '68 thru March '69. And got out!
